NIC Vendors Plug-in v 2.0
|
|
| |
Ethernet hardware addresses are 48 bits, expressed
as 12 hexadecimal digits. The first 6 digits are
called the Organizationally Unique Identifier (OUI)
and identify the Network Interface Card vendor.
The OUIs are offically issued by the IEEE (Institute
of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Inc).
However, not all existing OUI have been assigned by
IEEE.
Also, the firms and numbers may not always be
obvious in product implementations, as some
manufacturers subcontract component manufacture and
others include registered firm OUIs in their
products.
The NIC Vendors Plug-in database contains 4549 OUI
entries, i.e. the full updated IEEE database more a
few dozen entries from other sources.
